Teo
Teo stands as Lynn's absolute pride and joy. Originally acquired by Lynn to support activities at a therapeutic riding barn, Teo was swiftly moved to his permanent home at River Haven Farm. Under Lynn's care, Teo was promised a nurturing environment and plentiful treats, and he revels in the fulfillment of these assurances. Despite being a sizable North American Spotted Draft, Teo possesses a gentle nature and a heart brimming with kindness. He takes pleasure in imparting lessons on boundaries, trust, and kindness, particularly relishing the attention and abundance of treats bestowed upon him by visitors.
Canada
Canada, a full-blooded Canadian mare, began her life as an orphan, nurtured within a household during her first few months. This early upbringing likely contributes to her natural inclination to easily connect with people, a trait that has remained a defining aspect of her character. With a strong personality and exceptional communication skills, Canada is known for her honesty and maternal instincts. She firmly advocates for clear communication, setting boundaries, and teaching with heartfelt sincerity, reflecting the immense compassion and warmth of her generous heart
Cheeto
Cheeto, a Halflinger Cross pony with a deeply sensitive disposition, once served in a riding school string until Lynn and Dave purchased him and brought him home. Upon relocating from the Island, Cheeto quickly acclimated to life at River Haven Farm. Cheeto has since taken on the role of an educator, imparting lessons on patience, communication, and empathy. Judging by the abundance of hugs received, Cheeto believes he's excelling in his teaching duties. Feeling deeply valued and embraced for his individuality, quirks included, Cheeto couldn't be more grateful for the understanding and appreciation he receives.
Tysonn
Tysonn, a registered Arabian horse who has a rich history in the show ring. He embraced a arrived at River Haven looking for a new purpose and career. Since joining the team, Tyson has been a jovial and affectionate member of our community. He is particularly fond of Reiki sessions.
Marley and Sugar
Marley and Sugar, a devoted pair of miniature horses, were rescued from the interior of BC, where they found themselves in a precarious encounter with a grizzly bear. Despite their harrowing ordeal, the evidence of their previous owner's affection is apparent in their impeccable manners and trusting dispositions. At their newfound home at River Haven, Sugar and Marley revel in the simple pleasures, particularly the leisurely walks and the comfort of their warm and secure paddock, where they can relax without worry. They delight in witnessing the joy that lights up people's faces upon encountering them, a testament to their undeniable charm and adorable presence.
Sally
Sally is a rambunctious Rocky Mountain Welsh Pony and she arrived at the farm making her grand entrance as she met all of her herd mates. She loves working with children and has infinite patience with us all.
In Memorium
JR (August 2025)
In August 2025, we had to say goodbye to the most gorgeous soul. JR, our breathtaking boy, our gentle friend, our constant source of joy, has crossed over to his next adventure. There are horses who will leave an indelible mark on your heart. JR was one of them. He met every person with kindness, curiosity, and the quiet magic of his presence. He gave his whole heart to whatever was asked of him, offering comfort to those carrying heavy burdens, standing quietly with his head resting on a shoulder for as long as you needed, or showing off his “fancy” moves just to make you smile. He had a way of making you feel lighter, safer . . . more seen. JR was also a bit of a jokester. His facial expressions could brighten even the toughest days. You couldn’t help but love him. And so, so many did. JR was entrusted to our care almost two years ago and this time with JR have been a gift beyond measure, filled with so much laughter, love, and the simple joy of watching him run like the wind across the field with his friends. JR was laid to rest on our farm with the most beautiful ceremony, in the same pastures where he played, raced, and soaked up the sun. He was surrounded by those who love him and held him tightly until he took his last breath . . . peacefully bathed in love to the very last second. It feels impossible to imagine our days without him. The loss is immense. There will never be another JR. Thank you, sweet boy, for every moment, every lesson, every ounce of love you gave so freely. We will carry you in our hearts always. Run free now, and until we meet again, rest well in the arms of the angels. Our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported us through yesterday’s painful day. JR was not the only one surrounded by love. We are forever grateful for our River Haven community.
Chance (June 2026)
In June 2026, we said goodbye to one of the most beloved souls at River Haven Farm. Chance came to us more than three years ago after being found abandoned and starving in a field. When our vet assessed him, she believed he was around 30 years old. We took him in as a foster, intending to help him recover and find his next chapter. Instead, he became family. From the moment he arrived, we made him a promise: he would never be hungry, cold, frightened, or alone ever again. And he never was. Over the months that followed, Chance gained more than 150 pounds, regained his strength, and settled into the life he deserved. What began as a rescue quickly became one of the greatest gifts River Haven has ever received. Around the farm, he became known as "Papa Pants," the gentle grandpa of the herd. He was kindness embodied. The sweetest soul. The very definition of resilience and forgiveness. He loved children. He loved quiet moments. And although he was fully retired, every now and then a counselling client would ask to spend time with him. Chance would stand patiently and lovingly while they brushed him, rested their heads on his shoulder, and shared tears they had been carrying for far too long. He never asked anything of anyone. He simply offered his steady presence. Perhaps that was his greatest gift. Chance shared a particularly special bond with one of our long-time volunteers, Sue. She was his person, and he was her sweet love. Their connection was something beautiful to witness, and a piece of her heart went with him yesterday. When the time came, Chance left this world exactly as he had lived his final years, surrounded by incredible love. He passed peacefully on the farm, held by those who loved him most. He fell asleep for the last time in the place he called home and now rests here, forever part of River Haven. Thank you, Chance, for showing us what forgiveness looks like. Thank you for your gentleness. Thank you for your trust. And thank you for reminding us that no matter how difficult the beginning, every life deserves a beautiful ending. Run free, sweet Papa Pants. You were loved beyond measure, and you always will be.
